The lightweight of automobiles is the top priority of future energy conservation and emission reduction work, so there is a trend of automobile plasticization in the global automobile manufacturing industry. With the trend of automotive plasticization, the application and promotion of automotive plastic parts are expected to accelerate, and the entire industry will usher in rapid development with broad prospects.

According to estimates, a car's weight is reduced by 10%, fuel consumption can be reduced by 6% to 8%, and carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by 5% to 6%. Therefore, in energy conservation and emission reduction, vehicle light-weighting is an undisputed hot topic. In this context, plastic materials with low density have become an effective way to reduce the weight of the car body.

Among the auto parts of the same size, plastic products can generally be reduced by 30% to 40% in quality compared with steel, which has a considerable lightweight advantage. In addition, plastic materials have the advantages of large design space, low manufacturing cost, and a wide range of functions.

Therefore, with the continuous breakthroughs in technology, the application of automotive plastic products has gradually increased. From exterior trim parts to interior trim parts, from functional parts to structural parts, and even the emergence of all-plastic car bodies, the coverage of plastic products in automobiles is getting wider and wider, and the automotive plastic part industry is developing rapidly.

At the same time, the amount of plastic products used in automobiles has gradually become one of the indicators to measure the development level of a country's automobile industry. Globally, Germany and Japan are far ahead of other countries in the number of plastic products used in automobiles. According to statistics, the average use of plastic products in each car in Germany is nearly 300kg, and the average amount of plastic used in each car in Japan is 100kg. In comparison, the most plastic products used in each car in my country are only 70kg, and there is still much room for improvement in the future.

It can be seen from the data that even in Germany, where the automobile industry is developed, the use of plastic products is still relatively limited. The reason for this is that there are great obstacles to the promotion of automobile plasticization. On the one hand, there are difficulties in the supply of high-strength and cost-effective materials. Compared with metal, plastic has a shorter fatigue period, a serious aging phenomenon at high temperature or contact with gasoline, and insufficient application strength in force transmission parts. In addition, under technical constraints, the cost of automotive plastic products remains high.

On the other hand, automobile plasticization also faces problems such as production transformation costs and recycling. In other words, under the consideration of maximizing interests, auto manufacturers do not have a high degree of recognition of the automotive plastic part.

However, in general, under the pressure of energy-saving policies and product costs, automotive plasticization is the general trend, and the application and promotion of automotive plastic parts will continue to advance. With the continuous breakthrough of technology and the continuous improvement of material quality and technology, the problems existing in automotive plastic parts will be gradually solved, and through the efforts of the government, car companies, parts suppliers, material manufacturers, and other parties, it will move towards the stage of large-scale promotion and application, the future development prospects of automotive LCD can be expected.
